Ever17-The Out of Infinity

Its rare to find a GOOD Visual Novel in english language. When a Visual Novel makes the Jump into Western Territory its most of the time an eroge.I like to play an Eroge from time to time, but its rather boring since most Eroges have nearly the same Setup/Storyline.Thats the reason why i want to highlight my favorite VN ive played so far: Ever17-The out of Infinity.

Youll find everything about it after the Jump!

Ever17 was released in 2002 as a PS2/Dreamcast game and as Ever17 Premium edition a year later for PC Users.Sadly only Japnese customers could get into the fun…Until Hirameki International released a translated version 2 years later. The Review is going to be about the latter release.

Ever17 is a classic Visual Novel that features alot of text accompanied by Artwork,Music,Soundeffects and spoken dialogue. While you progress reading you can make different choices that affect the storyline. You cant call a Visual Novel therefore a game. Its more something of an interactive Book.

The Plot revolves around a group of people that are trapped inside an Themepark thats under the watersurface. You play the part of one of the Visitors of the ThemePark called LeMU: University Student Takeshi Kuranari or the amnesiac Boy called Kid.While they are visiting LeMU an accident happens and the Themepark gets evacuated.Due to certain circumstances they arent evacuated along with some other visitors/employees.During the evacuation process gets a large part of LeMU flooded and the lines of communication are cut off.The 7 remaining people trapped inside the themepark need to find a way to communicate with the outside or find a way to escape before the waterpressure destroys the already pretty heavy broken Outer Wall.

Ever17 is a really great storydriven game that really eats away your time. When i first played the game i planned to play only a few hours but it ended in an allnighter. The story grabs you by your neck and wont let loose until you finish the game. One of the greatest qualities/drawbacks is that its a quite long journey youll endure with the characters. You really start to like the characters and fever with them if they are going to make it alive or not.One of the bad endings with Takeshi really broke my heart(I didnt even twitch when i played Kana – Little Sister).I was pissed of all day after witnissing that end.Spending 8 hours of your life with the protagonists and getting something like that as a reward is HIGHLY dissatisfying. It really motivates you to get the good ending tough…Like i already mentioned before it takes time to finish this VN.I can imagine that quite a few people dont want to invest this much time.

The real twist about Ever17 is that both Storylines are somehow connected even tough they play in 2 totally different years. When youre playing as Takeshi the events happen in 2017 in opposite to the year 2034 when youre playing as Kid.Some minor events in one storyline might affect the other storyline greatly. If you want to find out the whole truth about LeMU you have to play through it various times including bad endings!

Ever17 will run on most PCs that dont come directly out of the StoneAge.It has a pretty low system requirement due to the kind of game. You wont find any fancy animations or anything like that but a really loveable cast and a great story. If you are still not convinced about the game check out the Games Opening “Movie”
