Im in a pinch right now…I wrote about my Preorders in my last post and and how i adore the Creators Labo Rei Ayanami after a Shunya Yamashita Design.I preordered her in an instant when i heard about her re-release since i knew from reviews that Yamato actually did a good job on her.The Dilemma im in is actually James fault for posting his Reviews on several figures from E2046s Gathering line.They are basically already painted Garagekits…There is one thing that bugs me about Yamatos PVC Rei: She doesnt come with the Bandages the Kit comes with (and well she isnt castoff ^^;;;). I always had an Eye on their Gathering Rei but didnt want to cash out that much money.
Well whats Rei without Asuka?It just feels wrong right?Thats why E2046 decided to turn Asuka into a ORI figure that seems to be after another Yamashita Design i didnt know of.They are offering her as a Gathering figure as well…
You know im a total sucker for Yamashita Designs and well i wouldnt mind a castoffable Asuka either…You can check them both out here.Thats some mighty cash they want for both of them but as far as ive seen across the blogosphere the gathering figures are worth every penny.
I wonder if i should cancel my PVC Preorder of Rei and go for both?They restock them in January and i guess id have some sparemoney from chritsmas by then….I have a bad feeling spending that much money tough…
That E2046 is constantly sending me newsletters with Pics of both of em doesnt help either…
The Creators Labo Rei is the cheaper alternative for sure but it would be stupid if i order the Gathering figures later tough. ARGH! IM IN DESPAIR!

I’m i9n despair too! Got this newsletter in the morning too. I actually wanted to buy the PVC Rei too, but I can’t resist Asukas expression…
And as they are cheaper togehter, I think I will spend this huge amount of money on those two figures. My only problem is… first I need the money^^

I’d get the Asuka and Rei combo but I’m not sure if those are official ones. If you look at their “about” pop-up… thing… The figures they sell are not original.
And that’s basically the only reason I’m not getting them. Also, as far as I know, the Asuka version was not based on an illustration by Shunya Yamashita. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I used the picture of Rei from the original sculpture’s site as a comparison to show the difference from the Gathering version. You can really see the difference in details and colors. The Gathering on is obviously not a colored version of the original resin kit.

Now I suddenly thought of something…
If I may, your choice will be based on:
1. Whether you want to have both despite them possibly being bootlegs: they’re obviously not the original ones but they’re authentically made by Gathering. By “not the original” I mean the Asuka was not based on illustrations by Shunya and the Rei is not the original resin kit. By “authentic”, I’m 100% sure that Gathering made those figures. And whether you want to spend that much for them.
(I really like the base and the fact that it’s both Asuka and Rei)
or
2. Whether you prefer to get the original PVC figure by Yamato.

I havent heard of a Yamashita Drawing of Asuka either so it might be just a copy of his Artstyle…
I also know that E2046 isnt selling original Resinkits(except for their Ori series).And thats probably the thing that bugs me the most about it.Its a really really big amount of money and my head just tells me that its wrong to spend so much on something like this (“original” or not).Im actually perfectly fine with the PVC Version and just to pay for some bandages (the castoff isnt really that important to me) the 2,5x amount of the Yamato PVC…leaves a really sour taste.
Yet i like the Idea of having both Asuka and Rei since they belong together…
Maybe i should just get the Creators Labo Rei and later the Gathering Asuka.They dont match basewise(wich is a bummer) but it would be the most economical choice.
If i wouldnt be stuck with my 15 hour/week job and have a fulltime one this choice wouldnt be that hard :/

Ah! You’re a completionist like me, it’s either all or none! I usually choose all…although that doesn’t make it the right answer…hhhmm it’s best I not think about these things.

If you really like both of them, then I’ll say buy them, even if it does mean you have to spend more money in a short period of time. I second Gordon that if you miss the chance, it’s not easy to acquire the figures again.
However considering how much you are spending and how much you’ve got can be a problem… Tough decision indeed. Whatever you do, just don’t regret with the decision you will make.

i think that if you honestly want them go for it, yeah it’s a hefty price to pay but they are pretty amazingly beautiful. I think the thing that seals the deal for E2046 is that asuka that they made as well. SHe’s just breathaking and the cast off features on rei make it worth it to me. Just cancel the order for the yamato version adn work your butt of the make up for the money spent on those two. Like gordon says, money can be earned back but once a figure is missed your Sh*t out of luck.

Alright i think ill go for the E2046 figures.Means alot of work but those 2 wont let me get any sleep.Those 2 are my absolutely most wanted figures right now and i still have time to save some money for them.

Well, I was in the same dilemma as you and even pre-ordered both at E2046 but after carefully analyzing Rei pictures, I noticed that they did a mess on her head bandage and I didn’t like the way they painted her eye too. On the Gathering kit, the bandage is too thick and clumsy. You can fix it as Valeria-Gon did, but in the end I cancelled the preoder on both and placed a new order on Asuka only, although she wasn’t based on a Shunya Yamashita’s original design, E2046 had a brilliant idea and did a splendid job creating an Asuka to match Shunya’s Rei. The high price of the set pondered on my decision too.
A friend of mine purchased Yamato’s Rei and, in spite of she wasn’t cast-off enabled and the lack of the head bandage, it is a stunning figure.

E2046s ORI Designers did an astounding job on creating a matching Asuka.She turned out dangerously hot.
I was really,really indecisive since i knew that Yamato does a good Job on this Rei.Im gonna go through with this now.When im spending that much money on asuka i can spend that much money on rei aswell
