Ahhh…Its that time of the year…The days get shorter,its getting colder and Id like to stay in my warm cozy bed all day instead of heading out in the bad cold world.One of the greatest things to do while slacking off in your bed, is to spend it reading some beloved Manga.I had a craving taste for some sweet Manga sessions this week and i headed off to Düsseldorf to get a new stash.The world is a gruesome place and the usual places didnt have any of the Manga i intended to buy in stock…I usually buy my Manga on Amazon but i had such a strong urge I coudnt wait that 1 day for delivery.
I ended up with some series i didnt consider to buy (yet) but my hunger had to be satysfied.As you probably noticed there are even some LoveComedy/Harem Mangas among them.Oh Shame…well the Truth is out….^^

Genshiken needs no introduction since its basic otaku knowledge.I enjoyed the first Volume and didnt expect to get so much joy from it even tough i watched the Anime alot.I was pretty unsure about picking it up since i feared it would be too close to the Anime.Im glad that this didnt turn out to be the case.From Otakus that prefer 2D girls to 2D Girls with Guns:Zeroin.I picked up the second Volume because there werent much other choices in the stores…I once ordered the first Volume and didnt know what to think of it.Its a typical Loser guy meets a kickass schoolgirl that is a parttime private police agent(for other manga change this to secret agent,demon slayer,alien whatever),falls for her and well shooting,breastfondling,accidently walking in when shes changing blablabla.I cant really say anything about this Manga.The Art or Story isnt really bad nor really good.Its a pretty mediocre manga and i hope therell be some kinda twist to it sooner or later.
I picked up IWGP up because it seemed like a pretty interesting setting thats after an award winning japanese book.Its about some buddies that hang around In Ikeburo West Gate Park and after one of their friends gets killed by a serial killer they try to take law into their own hands because they think that the police is too incompetent.Im going to follow this one for sure since it has some interesting developments at the end of this Volume.Ive gotta say that i dont like the artdirection tough.Not my cup of tea
The only Manga i wanted to pick up and were in stock are Volume 14 and 15 of 100% Ichigo.Its a typical Harem Love Comedy with lots of girls falling for one guy that doesnt know back from front.Its nothing revolutionary but i enjoy it alot.My Socialization with girls is at the same level as that 18 years old airhead of a male lead.^^;
And the last Manga i bought is To Love Ru wich is called Love Trouble over here.I havent seen the Anime and heard that the Manga is supposed to be ecchier and better than its animated counterpart and its fun so far.I didnt expect any tentacles to appear already in the first volume but here they are!I just pray that this wont end in a monster of the week kind of thing.More naked Lala and less monsters plz.
The next time ill order my Manga from Amazon again to make sure that i actually end up with Manga i want to buy and not pick some out of frustration.Whats your Manga source?

Borders usually has a large manga selection in stock, not sure if they exist in your city though.

I see that we almost taste in manga. I just finished reading Volume 6 of Genshiken. For me one of the best manga about subculture.
The first volume of To love Ru was released a short time ago, I began reading this afternoon. I am impatient because I love the TV series.
Ichigo 100% is nice, but I am not a fan, despite a good dosed fan service.
other manga you bought, I do not know.
I never does manga on amazon, I prefer to buy in bookstores, and no deadlines for deliveries.

Genshiken is a great title, Otaku or not. Always an interesting and fun read. It’s also very well drawn, that’s alwyas a plus.
Ichigo 100% isn’t really good content-wise as say, Genshiken but, the ‘flow’ of the manga is one I’ve always admired. I’ve always admired that ability of the mangaka

My manga sources are from local shops. They’re in chinese though. English mangas are available too but the quality is different from a US-produced Manga. =/ I prefer US XD. Anyway I hardly buy mangas nowadays because a US manga cost me 20 bucks.. IMagine if I buy every single book I read.. =/

Yeah i usually hate waiting for deliveries too but Amazon is really fast.You usually get your books within 1-2 days.
Genshiken is a great Manga/Anime.It manages to stay true to the culture without exaggerating too much.

Yeah Ichigo manages to keep a steady flow where many long lived LoveComedies seem to fall back into a more episodic kind of story telling.Ichigo 100% just had another appearance in the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OAD ^^

I have once bought a Japanese Shonen Sunday Special issue (or something like that) and the print quality wasnt great either.You could feel how the black paint went from the paper to your fingers.
German and US Mangas are of really nice quality

I dont wanna know how many volumes those 2 series have up to date 0.o
I cant stand reading scanlations…makes my head hurt.I only read them when theres no other way to buy them in a language i can read (German/English).Im only up to Volume 2 of Claymore.Need to get a new fix ^^
Seems like we have different preferences when it comes to manga. I’m actually motivated to get 100% Ichigo because my friend has been “psycho-ing” me a lot on the goodness of that series. But when I found out that the publisher is Tokyopop, I changed my mind. Ya, I’m bias and I know it, I dislike Tokyopop’s overpriced and low quality products. =_=

Ichigo 100% is nothing to write home about and i dont think that its too interesting for girls.
I dont know about Singaporean Tokyopop but the German Tokyopop Products are of pretty good quality.Id even say they sell the best ones regarding paperquality and durability on the german market.The Price is the same as any other Mangas over here.
Manga is always a great way to relax, and Genshiken is probably one of the best manga an otaku can relaxe with (except maybe Megatokyo).

i picked up vol 1 of ichigo 100% a long time ago but still haven’t started it yet ^^;
i should also start genshiken… i know nothing of the series ^^;;;
kinokuniya is my manga store of choice now. not as up to date as anything in japan of course, but a decent selection and it’s just best to be able to walk around the store and easily browse all the different series.
