The Japanese Garden
I already wrote about the strong japanese Community in Düsseldorf in earlier posts and today I want to write about one of the gifts they gave to this city.The Japanese Community collected 1,9 million German Marks in 1975 and built the 5000 squaremeter big Japanese Garden in the Nordpark.
Check out some General Info and Pictures after the Jump!
Düsseldorf always had a strong connection with the japanese economy and citizens.In 2008 were approximately 7000 Japanese citizens and 228 companies stationed in/around Düsseldorf.They had quite an impact on their surroundings as you can experience all throughout Düsseldorf.If you want more general Info i recommend to read my other post called The Dengeki Daioh Trip.In 1975 the japanese Community decided to share a tiny bit of their homeland with us and hired the Japanese garden architect Iwaki Ishiguro to specifically design a small Japanese Garden for Düsseldorf in the Nordpark.Its a genuine designed garden and not a simple copy of an already in Japan existing one.Japanese gardeners regulary check and repair the garden to keep it in a top condition.
The general concept of the garden revolves around a pond with a little island and a symbolic port.This concept is called “Lustgarten” and would mean something like Garden of Lust/Joy. Oh boy,that sounds perverted ^_^ Its a rather small part of the rather big Nordpark but the most enjoyable part in my opinion.You can spot cosplayers from time to time here aswell as people enjoying the soothing atmosphere especially in the summer.I guess ive gotta take some figures here for future shoots.
I was a bit unlucky today and didnt have photoshoot weather.I still think that the pictures turned out nice.
The text says the following:
The Japanese Garden at the Rhein reflects the mentality,tradition and sense of nature of the japanese culture.While the design of european gardens deals with the conflict between humanity + nature and its domination,the japanese philosophy revolves around becoming one with nature.This is rooted deep within the various japanese religions that think of the nature as something holy.
This garden consists of the same components as the japanese countryside,namly mountains ( resembled by rocks) and water (often resembled by sand /rubble).The Isle in the middle of the pond is another important part of the japanese natureside and its mentality.The components of the “Japanische Garten am Rhein” are placed in a harmoincal way with the goal that the viewer has a closed perspective from any point of view.
The japanese garden belongs to the Garden of Lust : Sea-Island type and is only one example of the wide variaty of japanese gardens.This garden is specifically designed for europeans that dont have an understanding of japanese aesthetics.Visitors are supposed to feel like part of the nature instead of an foreign body that entered forcefully.
Visitors that allow themselves to immerse into this experience will gain insight into the Japanese View on the world that often favors the aesthetic-symbolic over the rational-logic
Stupid Taggers….
Some kinda random bird
From here on out i strolled around the Nordpark…
and found a fellow blogger: LovelyDuckie! ^___^
Awww…isnt she cute?

The last time I was in a Japanese garden was when I was in elementary school and our class took a trip to one. I remember the feeling I had about how cool it was and that I liked it most out of all the gardens I’d seen. My parents were big into gardens and we’d go to all of the fancy garden type places within 2-3 hours of where I lived, so by the time I’d seen the Japanese garden on the school trip, I’d seen a lot of top-notch landscaping. Maybe it’s the water, but I really love that style of garden.

I wish we had gardens like this in the UK. There was a part of a big-big garden park-thing which was designated ‘the Japanese garden’. It had cherry blossom trees. But nothing like that one…..
And as for Key/Clannad girls. Tbh, I didn’t like them first either. I thought they were WAY too big and sparkly. But after finally getting round to watching them(someone told me too…..) I fell in love with them. the characters more than the designs. But they’re stil cute lol.

Now it is time to take your figures out for an outdoor photoshoot at the garden. :p
I wonder what Duckie will say about the ducks lol.

there’s the pretty “friendship garden” here in san diego at balboa park. besides being overpopulated with tourists, they do a VERY good job of keeping it clean and tag-free!
it even has some museums in the middle of the park disguised on the outside as one-story traditional japanese houses!! the only thing it lacks is a bigger pond… sigh, so many koi fish, such a small pond…

Hehehe as long as the other duckie buys my figures for me I think my boy toy would encourage it
. Although I pay for all my figures now, the bf has only bought me one BOME figure. If I ever fall on real hard times you’ll know how to find me cause I will be the bum on the side of the road with the sign “Will Work For Play-Asia 5% Off Coupon”
Man my heart melted looking at the Japanese Gardens…I looove Japanese Gardens. When I studied in England I visited Kew Gardens and got to see some truly breathtaking Japanese Gardens. I should post my pictures sometime!

Those are beautiful pictures. We have one that I know of over here, but I have, yet, to see it. Other people have told me that they like it, so it must be nice.^^

Thanks for sharing! I love the ducks photos; they’re so cute! (^_^) Are they protected animals? Bwahahaha, I feel like taking them home.
In Singapore, there is a “Japanese Garden” and it’s built next to the “Chinese Garden”. I haven’t been to the “Japanese Garden” yet because I always seem to miss the opening hours and I’m rather reluctant to pay a fee just to visit a garden. However if I do visit, I’ll blog about it and link it back to ya! (:

What?! I never knew that there’s a Japanese park in Düsseldorf! It looks like that I’d need to pay another visit to this city one day @_@
But seriously, I wouldn’t have thought that the influence of the Japanese commnity can bring out so much stuff here. That’s very impressive! Getting somethiing like that in the UK is pretty much like a joke since the influence is nearly negligible, and in Hong Kong there’s no space for such things (so they’ll have events instead if I recall properly)

@superrats
The atmoshphere in those gardens in something completely different deom our western gardening.I cant really tell what it is but its awesome.I guess the garden you visited was much bigger than ours if you school organized a trip there.
@Meimi
You really didnt?I thought the UK was the biggest Japanese Colony in Europe?
Well atleast you can have some fun with your girls on hanami in that park^^
@Panther
Yeah,i need to bring some figures along.It isnt that frequented at the moment.I wont be that ashamed then.
@enrique
That sounds pretty neat! Ours is nothing compared to that.Considering that this “small” garden is already worth alot of cash i dont wanna know how much yours costs.
@lovelyduckie
So the question is: Wich BOME Figure did your bf buy you? ^^
Wow youve been quite around duckie!Id love to see some pictures of those garden!
I havent come around that much but i bet there are some awesome gardens in england
@Jem
Be sure to share some pics when you visited it
@Hynavian
Ducks?Protected? LOL
I dont know how it is across the pond but ducks are a very common view over here.Go to a park with water and youll surely come across ducks.Back when i wa sa wee lad i fed those with my grandma^^
Sounds like your garden must be superb when you have to pay an entrance fee.Hope to see some pictures sometime
@Q
Well,its hidden in the Nordpark and i dont think that its advertised anywhere…If you are ever again in Düsseldorf ill be your Tourguide^^ Be ready for some goodtimes
The huge influence may be due to the fact that we are among the top exporting nations and have a very healthy relationship with certain countries.Japan is among them. The Mayor of Düsseldorf even brought along some kegs of Altbeer when he visited Japan ^^b
@roy
Thanks!
Yep ive tuned up my blog a little bit ^^
I do remember you buddy and i just saw inmy feedreader that you updated your blog.Gonna check asap
@Meimi
Do you really expect me to have knowledge of female anatomy? I collect plastic girls after all! LOL!
I do know that you arent flat down there (not through experience but class^^;) but the shadowing makes it look like quite a healthy package imho
@phossil
Thank you! Yeah it a great place if you want to have a few quiet minutes

the place looks rather empty. anyway as what Hynavian mentioend, we have a Japanese garden as well. in fact back in the 70s, the emperor of japan and his wife planted a plant there at the garden. it’s still there today and the emperor and his wife revisited it few years back when they came to Singapore.

He got me Rin from Fate: Stay/Night. We were in Newbury Comics and she caught my eye. Since he likes her character he got it for me. It’s unlikely I’ll ever get another figure from him, but that’s cause I pay for all my stuff myself
he could never even begin to guess how to buy a figure I want and not have me buy it for myself too.
Posted on March 9th, 2009 at 21:12
Whoops! Totally forgot about checking this post ^^;;;
@Gordon
I bet it cant compare to your Japanese Garden!I went there on a day with bad weather and relatively early.Thats why you dont see anyone else and well its a sponsored park so it isnt that big and stuffed^^
@M12
No Problem! I love to share^^

This place is gorgeous. I’d feel at peace if I took a stroll through there. ^^
There’s a Japanese garden in a park around my area, but I haven’t been there in a while so I don’t have personal pictures. Just this one I found off google: http://api.ning.com/files/4xg3kJkwU0Ukx3-GU2gqSdKycD6YkhZypL7webbwdX0_/HuntingtonLibrary_JapaneseGarden.jpg
