Penguin Girl Sakura
Meet Sakura Nakyoku,called Penguin by her friends, a genki totally airheaded Otaku that spends way too much time with Manga,Anime and cosplaying.Shes the star of the Series Penguin Musume Haato that aired on NicoNico Douga last year and got the PVC treatment by Alter and GSC this year.Did Alter capture her spirit? Check it after the Jump!
Penguin Musume Haato is one of those series that you either like or hate since it has its very own kind of humor that revolves around pretty random things.The series was aired last year as 21 Episodes with a lenght of about 13 1/2 minutes and even ended with something you could call a cliffhanger ^^
I especially loved the always changing intros of the series 
As a little appetizer heres part one of episode 3 where most girls act like cats due to some sudden turn of event
Alter and GSC both haven taken a different approach to Sakura and Alter went with the energetic cosplaying Otaku while GSC chose the more traditional Kimono?/Yukata? setup.Im a big fan of Sakuras random Otaku personality and knew instantly wich one to choose.Sakura has the honour to be my very first Alter figure
I know that alot figure collectors bet their butt that Alter is THE figure manufacturer but I cant say that they are that more outstanding than the other big player.I take it for granted that both deliver some not so great figures from time to time but I wouldnt say that either GSC nor Alter is THE manufacturer and would decide on a case by case basis if a figure is worth its money.
I didnt intend to talk about GSC or Alter anyways so lets get started:
One of Sakuras strong points is her dynamic,cheerful pose aswell as the details of her maid outfit.It boasts alot of details and make a rather boring outfit lively.While Alter definately scores with the outfit her hairs a rather big lump of PVC without any definition and its kind of a letdown since i expected alot more of Alter in that department.Dont get me wrong its not a deal breaker but still a bummer that they wasted potential there.They tried to make the hair more lively by giving it a nice shading but that proved to be rather unsucessful.You wont spend too much time looking at her back anyways since Sakura is one of those figures that only looks good from a certain angle and thats the front.This could be due to the hair but I might be wrong.
Alter nailed Penguins face down to the spot and get full marks for staying true to her character.
So wich one is the better Sakura?It really depends on wich trait of Sakura you prefer since both companies portray a different part of her.The most prominent part of her personality is the hardcore otaku but theres a very sweet traditional Sakura inside her aswell.Im a fan of the Otaku that roams in her chest but I cant say that this one is better than GSCs Sakura.Shes simply a different approach on the same character I dont like as much as Alters

One of those things that got me angry was that she appeared 40% off in HLJs second anniversary sale…It looks like I have the tendencie to preorder figures that end up in the bargain bin shortly after release 
A few words to my pictures: Dont like how they turned out this time.Nope,not all but I didnt feel like retaking those.
Wasnt able to get a nice green one and ended up using a dark mushy green one…Meh

Nice pics of a really sweet figure, didn’t have much interest in the figure before since I never caught the series. I totally like how the underneath of the skirt was done though, I assume those little details were part of the sculpt and not painted on?
About the hair, I’m thinking it actually looks okay and maybe less might be more in the case since that’s a fair amount of hair there and more detail might break up the continuity or something. But I’d definitely prefer the view from the front as well.
The sales online retailers are having are pretty nuts these days, makes me scared to preorder somewhat even ^^; But if you don’t preorder, and things get sold out, you end up kicking yourself. Tis a very painful hobby to have sometimes ^^;

Her face looks a little off in certain angles, but aside from that, it looks like a typically awesome Alter production
Now they just need to make a figure of that pink haired girl from Penguin Musume; she was the only character that I liked -_-

Interesting… a couple of people I know just got their first Alter figures ^^; If I was a big fan of this anime I would have a hard time picking the figures… Though you’re quite right that it fits her character with this cosplay, but I like that loli yukata one that the GSC one have. Oh well, I didn’t have to make the decision thankfully XD And no loading problem on my end.

I thought this set of photos was pleasant to look at, but I guess it wasn’t the look you were going for leading to disappointment?
Anyway, about the figure itself, I really like how the frills on her apron and the detail of the cut-out details on the hem of her underskirt. The visual flow is good too. Cat ears stopped me from ordering this one though in spite of the lovely flow and costume.

Lovely Sakura figure, tempted to get it but… mhh, budget. Very energetic and upbeat pose and facial expression, perfectly captures Sakura’s character. Alter make since figures, they’re quite good, they have gotten better these past years though and sometimes it does depend on the figure. Even with reputed makers like GSC, Max Factory or Alter, some figures are better than others.
The photos look rather good to me. ^^

Got into a little panic mode during the 2nd Anniversary sale. Saw her at a discounted price so I added her in before I regret. These shots prove I make the right choice. xD
Despite not knowing much about her character (until now) I’ve had a fetish for maid figures and adding her into my little maid collection makes the group feel more lively. LOL
I will try to find the series now but there was very few groups who did a good sub on it.

@FlyingBlow: Okay, noticed something…
For this post, when I click your images in Google Reader, it jumps to a Warning-Failure page. That’s fine, since the originals are intact… On the other hand, when I click your images directly from this blog post, it jumps to a Flickr page where I have to be registered to view the image. Which is fine too… But in both cases, when an image is clickable, my instinct is to expect a larger image.
So maybe kill the link instead?

She looks great! If I went for either one it’d be the GSC one just because I’m more of a sucker for a yukata then a maid outfit but in general I prefer Alter to GSC. I still need to watch this series, I saw a bit of the first episode but that’s about it.

Yes,the deatils were part of the sculpt and not painted.Alter did an awesome job there.
Im in the same Preorder/ Dont Preorder Dilemma as you.I dont like to play with my luck though and end up preordering since I can be assured that Ill own this figure.

This month turned out to be my First Alter and Max Factory figure Month ^^
I didnt have a hard time at all since I like it when the figures stay in Character.I can understand the people that are having a hard time though

Nice pictures, and nice figure from Alter. Back of the hair does look too much of a one piece, but could it be intentional?
On the other hand, you didn’t like how your shots turn out? I think it looks pretty interesting there though.

Hey congrats for the 1st Alter xD Both GSC and Alter make awesome quality figures ^^ but I guess when choosing which company is best comes down to the individual, if Alter makes more figures of characters that the individual likes than he/she will like Alter more=3
Anyways, I thought the shots looked great
the figure itself is amazing, the details and sculpt are crisp and you gotta love it when girls get cold in maid outfits ^^ I agree that the back is boring but who really displays their figures backward? ^^ So all in all it is a great looking figure to me =D

Well I’ve heard of the anime before but I really didn’t know much about it. You’ve sparked my interest though, now I want to check it out. The figure itself looks pretty good but upon first look I would lean more towards the yukata version. It’s not really a matter of who makes it, just I really like yukatas, though I’d say I have a slight maid fetish too.
